ACTIVITY HIGHLIGHTS
- 9/3-paper mache masks-the pre-Colombian legend of Tona, which has it that all people shared a destiny with an animal, called a Tona, which matched their personality traits in some way, participants are encouraged to identify the traits that make them special then create a mask of that animal
- 9/7-Calaveras (or skeletons)-These skeletons doing every day activities are symbols of Dia De Los Murtes or Day of the Dead, a holiday that focuses on remembering those we love that have passed away
- 9/9-Ojo De Dios (Eye of God)-This stick and yarn craft will accompany a bible study lesson which focuses on how God is always with us throughout our lives
- 9/10-Small soup can lantern craft in the tradition of Mexican décor for our Fiesta Lunch on the 15th
- 9/23-Mayan Glyphs-A glimpse into Mayan Culture as we carve our names into clay using hieroglyphic symbols
- 9/29-Ex Voto-An ex voto is a votive painting hung on a church wall to commemorate the recovery of the donor from some grave danger. The painting illustrates a written text that relates the circumstances of the cure or rescue. Our paintings will be illustrations of special times we are thankful for.
