In 2008 The Seniors Place served 219 participants and caregivers through our Memory Care Day Program.
Our Health Services Director guided new wellness initiatives for families, participants, and staff, including a Caregiver Wellness Clinic in July that focused on hypertension screening and diet counseling, staff training on fall prevention, and a one day clinic offering TB tests and flu shots for families, participants and staff.
A special research project on the importance of self esteem in persons with memory loss was designed and implemented by the Program Director and Activity Coordinator. The results, which were significant, were presented at the National Adult Day Services Association National Conference in San Antonio in early November of 2008.
We expanded our use of technology to enhance the activity program. Participants were shown exciting new programming that included overseas destinations, allowing them to travel around the world “on screen.”
Family Socials continued to be a tremendous success. We offered lunch and a speaker to our caregiving families and included presentations on caregiver stress, gait changes in dementia patients, and the value of hospice care.
Over 50 volunteers from UT School of Nursing participated in our daily program this year, learning about memory loss and care for older adults.
Three all day staff training sessions were conducted in 2008 and provided staff with the opportunity to learn new skills, work together as a team, and expand their knowledge about dementia and caregiving.
We installed a new development database to track donations, increase donor contact, and better manage donor requests.
Our Building for Generations Campaign increased its goal to $7.2 million as it received final price estimates on the new facility. The campaign reached $6.7 million in funds raised to date.
